Ensemble la Sportelle spatializes almost all of its concerts, considering the orientation of the spectators’ gaze and ears within the space. The concert Lux deepens this approach through the lens of light: by combining stage lighting and musical light, the entire sonic space is claimed by the audience.

Just as great painters like Rembrandt or Monet chose light as the true subject of their art, composers from the Renaissance to the present day have embraced this intangible yet essential element.

Placing light at the center of their musical language, the composers in this program paint vivid and contrasting soundscapes. Their harmonic pathways, the thickness of the polyphonies, and the brilliance of the voices create what could be called sound light.

The order of the works and their spatialization allow the audience to gradually discover the voices of the 8 singers from La Sportelle: the proposed thread truly shapes the listener’s experience and enables them to fully appreciate the density of the 8-part polyphonies in the third section.

A reflection of the musical program, the light design for this concert is an obvious choice, enhancing the venue, guiding the gaze, and illuminating the deep meaning of the works.
